CANSKATE is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CANSKATE you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. You will earn badges and other incentives when you learn fundamental skating skills that align with hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic new program that prepares skaters of all ages for virtually every ice sport.

PRE-CANSKATE
45-minute non-parented class for children ages 3-6 who have not had any significant time on skates. It is designed to introduce children to the ice and help them become comfortable. This program teaches children the basics of how to get up when they fall down, how to move forward, basic backward movement and an introduction to stopping. Music, toys, and games are used to help children feel ready to take the next step.

Lessons are given in a group format and led by NCCP-certified professional coaches. The coach-to-student ratio is a maximum of 1:10. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants and many of Grandview Skating Club’s experienced STARSkate and competitive skaters volunteer as Program Assistants with our CANSKATE program.

Canskatersinaction

Action, movement and fun! Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment and promote learning. CANSKATE is the feeder program to all other Skate Canada Skating Programs.

A complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CANSKATE uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.

If a skater wishes to advance to private or semi-private lessons, the skater’s family should contact our head coach to make inquiries about readiness for private or semi-private lessons.
