1.0 GENERAL
All participants are governed by the Grandview Skating Club, BC/YK Section, Skate Canada and Vancouver Parks Board Arenas Rules and Regulations. Each participant is responsible for ensuring they have read the rules and regulations available on the website and will abide by them at all times.
By registering, participants agree that they have read, acknowledge and consent to abide by the GSC Policies, Procedures, Rules and Regulations as determined by Skate Canada, and the Board of Directors, and as posted here GSC Club Rules.
GSC, its board members, coaches, and volunteers are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or loss of personal belongings, either on or off the ice. GSC is not responsible for cancellation of classes due to unavailable ice and does not provide refunds, but will make every effort to reschedule if at all possible. We reserve the right to cancel sessions with low registration. Schedule and programs are subject to change or cancellation.
2.0 REFUNDS AND MISSED CLASSES
Program Withdrawal/Refund & Credit Policy
In the event a skater wishes to withdraw one week prior to the first day of the season, a full refund, less the non-refundable Skate Canada fee, will be processed. Refunds to outside grant funders will be applied first, followed by refunds in the original form of payment to members. Alternately, a credit may be applied to future registration fees, less the annual Skate Canada fee, at the discretion of the Board. An administration fee of $25.00 may be applied.
The Grandview Skating Club does NOT issue refunds after the first day of skating. Exceptions may be made in the case of long-term injury when accompanied by a valid medical letter which must include the date of the injury, the expected date of return and any limitations on participation. All requests for medical refunds must be submitted in writing to our email grandviewsk8club@gmail.com. Refunds, if granted, will be pro-rated, and an administration fee of $25.00 will be applied.
Can’t Make A StarSkate Class?
If you are unable to attend a StarSkate session, please notify the Director of Skating by email at gsc.coachdirector@gmail.com as early as possible, however, make-up lessons are NOT guaranteed for missed classes. The minimum notice required is 48 hours for a planned absence and make-ups will only be offered if there is availability. Skaters may request a MAXIMUM of 2 make-ups per season. If a make-up lesson is offered and declined, the skater forfeits that lesson. Make-ups do not carry over into the next season.
No Shows – Skaters in Star 2 and above must provide a $90 attendance assurance fee which will be held until the end of the skating year. Skaters must provide advance notice, in writing, to the club and/or coaching director, a minimum of 3 hours prior to the scheduled lesson for any absences. Failure to do so will result in a $30 no show fee deduction from the attendance assurance fee for each absence without notice.
3.0 SUPERVISION
A Parent or Guardian is required to stay at the skating rink during all CanSkate sessions for children under 12. The child should know the name of the parent/guardian accompanying them to the lesson. The parent/guardian is responsible for the child any time they are not on the ice surface.
4.0 MEDIA WAIVER
Your child will be taking part in Grandview Skating Club events, where club directors will take photographs/videos of the event or activity that may contain images of your child. It is likely that these images may be used as:
- a record of the activity or the event
- coaches training assessment
- publicity material for further activities or events on leaflets/websites/magazines
- illustrations of the activities or events in published articles, future grant applications
Acceptance of these policies is your consent for the use of photos/videos unless a written request is received by the Club. Requests to exclude skaters from photos/videos can be emailed to Grandviewsk8club@gmail.com.
5.0 HELMETS
All CanSkate Stage 6 and under skaters are required to wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet on the ice. Snowboarding, ski and bicycle helmets do not meet safety requirements and are not allowed. Skaters who do not have proper equipment will not be permitted on the ice. See Skate Canada’s Helmet Policy
