CANSKATE & PRECANSKATE

CANSKATE & PRECANSKATE
CANSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. This program focuses on fun, participation, and basic skill development.  GRANDVIEW SKATING CLUB offers expert coaching and a high ratio of program assistants to skaters. Skaters will learn fundamental skating skills such as balance, control, and agility that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating, and figure skating.

Sundays – April 12 to June 21
6:15 pm – 7:00 pm BRITANNIA ARENA
Note: No class on Sunday, May 17

*Fees do not include the annual $58.65 non-refundable Skate Canada Fee for new registrants
*Please note:  Skate and helmet rentals are not available. All skaters must provide their own equipment! All Stage 6 and under skaters are required to wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet and gloves on the ice. Snowboarding, ski and bicycle helmets are not allowed and do not meet safety requirements. Skaters who do not have proper equipment will not be permitted on the ice. See Skate Canada’s Helmet Policy for details.

POWERSKATE UNDER 10

POWERSKATE is an excellent complement for athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. The dynamic program is taught by Skate Canada-certified CANPower instructor. PowerSkate U 10 is geared to skaters aged six or older with basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate with speed the length of the rink using alternate strides) and can stop on command without using the boards.

Complete hockey equipment is required. Hockey sticks are sometimes used, but no pucks will be shot or passed.

Fridays – April 10 to June 19
U10 – 8:00 pm to 8:45 pm BRITANNIA ARENA
NOTE: No classes on May 15

POWERSKATE 10 AND OVER

STAR 1 ACADEMY / PRESTAR PROGRAM

The STAR 1 ACADEMY program is a bridge between CANSkate and the STARSkate program. STAR 1 Academy skaters will work in smaller groups with a professional coach and learn figure skating skills such as jumps, edges, spirals, spins, turns, and ice dances. Skate Canada recommends STAR Skaters skate at least twice weekly and include off-ice training.

Classes include off-ice training to develop cardio fitness, flexibility, strength, and control and reduce the risk of injury on the ice.  Entry to this program is by invitation only through the CANSkate program or by video submission assessments. Videos can be emailed to gsc.coachdirector@gmail.com.

Sunday – April 12 to June 21
6:00 pm to 7:45 pm – BRITANNIA ARENA
6:00 pm to 6:45 pm – Off Ice
7:00 pm to 7:45 pm – On Ice
Note: No class on Sunday, May 17

STAR 2 TO GOLD

We look forward to a fun spring session with our STARSkaters. Skate Canada recommends STAR Skaters skate at least twice weekly and include off-ice training. Thus, we have developed special Junior and Senior Packages to help our STARSkaters progress despite the reduced ice time for the Spring session.

We know the morning sessions are hard for some families, but trust us, it will make a difference! Some skaters actually like the morning sessions better as they can do more after-school activities with friends and family. You’ll grow to love ’em! ⏰

STAR 2 – 4 (Junior)

To align with Skate Canada’s STAR program, STAR 2-4 skaters in Junior sessions will be placed in small groups and will have a minimum of 45 minutes of instruction for both on-ice and off-ice lessons. For those wishing to skate more, please submit a request by email and offers for extra days will be considered after member registration closes on March 15th.

Please note that makeup lessons are not guaranteed in the spring.

STAR 5 – GOLD

Please note that makeup lessons are not guaranteed in the spring.
