CANSKATE
CANSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. This program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Celebrating Skate Canada’s CANSkate program, GRANDVIEW SKATING CLUB offers expert coaching and a high ratio of program assistants to skaters. Skaters will earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills such as balance, control and agility that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport.
PRE-CANSKATE
45-minute non-parented class for children ages 3-6 who have not had any significant time on skates. It is designed to introduce children to the ice and help them become comfortable. This program teaches children the basics of how to get up when they fall, how to move forward, basic backward movement and an introduction to stopping. Music, toys, and games are used to help children feel ready to take the next step. NOTE: All lessons are conducted in a group format, alongside CanSkate levels two and above. Therefore, children must be somewhat independent and not require one-on-one supervision for the entire class. Children must be toilet-trained.
CANSkate Ages 3yrs & Up
Adult / Teen CANSkate (All Levels)
45-minute lesson
*Skaters should dress warmly for classes and must wear mittens or gloves.
*Approved CSA hockey helmets are mandatory, and children are not permitted on the ice without one. See the helmet policy here.

POWERSKATE
An excellent complement for athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. The dynamic program is taught by Skate Canada-certified PowerSkate instructors.
PowerSkate U 10 is geared to skaters aged six or older with basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and can stop on command without using the boards. PowerSkate Over 10 is fast-paced and intensive training for those playing Rep or similar programs.
Complete hockey equipment is required. Hockey sticks are sometimes used, but no pucks will be shot or passed.
🗓️ Session Dates: September 23 – December 16 at Trout Lake Arena
Under 10 & Atom and Under – Tuesdays – 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM
10 & Over, PeeWee and Over – Tuesdays – 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM
STAR 1
The STAR 1 program is a bridge between CANSkate and the STARSkate program. STAR 1 skaters will work in smaller groups with a professional coach and learn figure skating skills such as jumps, edges, spirals, spins, turns and ice dances.
Classes are offered in 90-minute sessions, which include off-ice training to develop cardio fitness, flexibility, strength, control, and reduce the risk of injury on the ice. Entry to this program requires strong forward and backward skating, confidence in performing skills on one foot and the ability to stop on command. Skaters may be invited through our CanSkate program, or you may request an assessment by emailing the Coaching Director at gsc.coachdirector@gmail.com

STARSKATE – STAR 2 to 4 (Junior)
To better align with Skate Canada’s STAR program, we instruct our skaters in a group lesson format, maximizing coached time and improving their skating skills. STAR 2-4 skaters will be placed in a group of 3-4 and coached for the entire 45-minute session, or 45 minutes with 15 minutes of supervised practice in an hour-long session. This will create well-rounded skaters as various skating disciplines are covered during this time.
Skaters must register for a minimum of two days of ice time to progress their skating skills at a junior level and three days at an intermediate/senior level.
If skaters want more time to work on their skating, the early morning Open sessions provide 45-90 minutes of ice time, with one 15-minute lesson each week for STAR 2, 3 and 4 skaters. The ice is shared with STAR 5 and up skaters.
