2022 Fall Session

Session Dates: September 6th – December 17th, 2022
All sessions take place at the Trout Lake Arena

CANSKATE

CANSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. This program focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.  Celebrating Skate Canada’s CANSkate program, GRANDVIEW SKATING CLUB offers expert coaching and a high ratio of program assistants to skaters. Skaters will earn badges and other incentives as they learn fundamental skating skills such as balance, control and agility that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating. The result is a dynamic program that prepares all skaters for virtually every ice sport

NEW THIS YEAR: PRE-CANSKATE
45-minute non-parented class for children ages 3-6 who have not had any significant time on skates. It is designed to introduce children to the ice and help them become comfortable. This program teaches children the basics of how to get up when they fall down, how to move forward, basic backward movement and an introduction to stopping. Music, toys, and games are used to help children feel ready to take the next step. NOTE: All lessons are done in a group format, so children must be somewhat independent and not require one-on-one supervision for the entirety of the class. Children must be toilet trained.

*Skaters should dress warmly for classes and must wear mittens or gloves.

STAR 1

The STAR 1 program is a bridge between CANSkate and the STARSkate program. STAR 1 skaters will work in smaller groups with a professional coach and learn figure skating skills such as jumps, edges, spirals, spins, turns and ice dances.

Classes are offered in 90-minute sessions which include off-ice training to develop cardio fitness, flexibility, strength, control and reduce the risk of injury on the ice.  Entry to this program requires strong forward and backward skating, confidence in performing skills on one foot and ability to stop on command. Skaters may be invited through our CanSkate program or you may request an assessment by emailing grandviewsk8club@gmail.com

Tuesdays – 3:45 PM – 5:15 PM
Wednesdays – 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
Saturdays – 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

STAR 1 skaters must register for two sessions weekly. Skaters interested in three days weekly can be accommodated by request.

CANPOWER

An excellent complement for athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams. The dynamic program is taught by Skate Canada-certified CANPower instructors.

CanPowerSkate U 11 is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without the use of the boards. CanPowerSkate U18 is fast-paced and intensive training for those playing Rep or similar programs.

Full hockey equipment is required. Hockey sticks will sometimes be used, but no shooting or passing of pucks.

Tuesdays, Sept.20 – Dec. 13 – 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM (11 & Over, PeeWee and Over)
Thursdays, Sept. 22 – Dec. 15 – 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM (Under 11 & Atom and Under)

STARSKATE

STAR 2 to 4 (Junior)

To better align with Skate Canada’s STAR program, we instruct our skaters in a group lesson format to maximize coached time and better improve their skating skills. STAR 2-4 skaters will be placed in a group of 3-4 and will be coached for the entire 45-minute session, or 45 minutes with 15 minutes of supervised practice on an hour-long session. This will create well-rounded skaters as various disciplines of skating are covered during this time.

  • Skaters should register for a minimum of two days of ice time to progress their skating skills at a junior level, and 3 days at an intermediate/senior level.
  • If skaters are looking for more time to work on their skating, the Open and MPI sessions provide 45-90 minutes of ice time, with one 15-minute lesson included each week for STAR 2, 3 and 4 skaters. The ice is shared with STAR 5 and up skaters.
