CANSkate is Skate Canada’s flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for skaters of all ages. When you sign up for CANSkate you will be in a program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development.

CANSkate Ages 3yrs & Up Stage 1-6

Saturday: September 14 – December  14,  9:00am-9:45am
Monday: September 16 – December  16, 5:15pm-6:00pm
Wednesday: September 18 – December  18, 3:30pm-4:15pm

* NO LESSONS on Oct. 9, 14, 30 and Nov. 11
* SPECIAL EVENT DAYS: October 26, Halloween skate, December 14, Skate with Santa. There will be no formal lessons on these dates.

*Trout Lake Rink does not have helmets or skate rental available, so you must bring your own. See our Helmet Policy for required helmets.

CANPower Skate

An excellent complement for athletes playing on hockey or ringette teams.The dynamic program is taught by Skate Canada certified CANPower instructors.

CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without use of the boards.

Full hockey equipment is required. Hockey sticks will sometimes be used, but no shooting or passing of pucks.

The STAR 1 program  is a bridge between CANSkate and the STARSkate program. STAR 1 skaters will work in smaller groups with a professional coach and learn figure skating skills such as jumps, edges, spirals, spins, turns and ice dances.

Classes are offered in 90 minute sessions which includes off- ice training to develop cardio fitness, flexibility, strength, control and reduce risk of injury on ice.  Entry to this program is by invitation only through the CANSkate program, so ask the skating director if you are interested.

Sessions below include On and Off Ice Training (choose 2 sessions per week).

STAR 2 – Gold skaters, please note that there have been some changes to our registration process and programs:

What’s New: In order to allow more practice time for individual programs, the Thursday freeskate session is a private lesson format. The session cost covers ice time and one private (15 minute) lesson. To register for the Thursday session, you must be enrolled in at least one Freeskate Group session.

STAR 5 – Gold

Registration for ice time, group lessons and off-ice is now online!

: To support skater development, encourage participation in off-ice classes, and to simplify registration, times for classes have been shifted. On Monday and Wednesday, off-ice classes have been bundled with on-ice fees.

Skate Canada Fee: Skate Canada has increased their membership fee. It is now $43.65. This annual fee is valid until August 2020, and will be automatically added to your online registration;

Volunteer Bond: The volunteer bond of $125 will be held on your credit card until August 15, 2020. When all volunteer hours are complete, the amount held on credit will be deleted.

Remember that there is a MANDATORY skater orientation on Wednesday, September 4th at 3:30 – 5:30pm. All skaters must attend.

Synchronized Skating

Grandview will continue to have a Synchro class on Saturday morning at 7:45 am. Final details are being worked out and registration will be available soon. Stay tuned!
