STAR 1

The STAR 1 program  is a bridge between CANSkate and the STARSkate program. STAR 1 skaters will work in smaller groups with a professional coach and learn figure skating skills such as jumps, edges, spirals, spins, turns and ice dances.

Classes are offered in 90 minute sessions which includes off- ice training to develop cardio fitness, flexibility, strength, control and reduce risk of injury on ice.  Entry to this program is by invitation only through the CANSkate program, so ask the skating director if you are interested.

Sessions below include on and off-ice lessons (choose 2 sessions per week).

STAR  2 – 4 (Junior / Intermediate A) Skaters

Registration is Online! Please note that there have been changes to the STAR 2-4 program.

To better align with Skate Canada’s STAR program, we are transitioning toward group lessons for skaters. STAR 2 skaters will be placed in a group of 3-4 and will be coached for the entire 45 minute session. In addition, every 3rd week, the skater will receive a 15 minute private lesson. STAR 3 and 4 skaters will work in semi-private sessions (groups of 2). They will have a group lesson for 15 minutes, a private lesson for 15 minutes, and 15 minutes to work on their own.

  • Skaters must register for at least two Freeskate Group Lessons, and one Off-ice session to progress their skating.
  • In addition, skaters are strongly encouraged to register for a “Pattern” session (this includes a private lesson for dance or skills) and “Edges and Elements” (this is a group lesson).
  • If skaters are looking for more time to work on their skating, the Open and MPI sessions provide 45-90 minutes of ice time, with one 15 minute lesson included each week for STAR 2, 3 and 4 skaters. The ice is shared with STAR 5 + skaters.
